Urban Bachata

Urban Bachata (also known as Bachata Urbana or linked with Bachata Moderna) is a dynamic fusion dance style that combines traditional Dominican bachata footwork with elements from hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and street dance.

Bachata began in the 1960s in the Dominican Republic. It was once looked down on as music of the rural poor.

In the 2000s, Aventura (Romeo Santos), Prince Royce and others brought a more urban, pop-friendly bachata to a global audience.

Dancers in Europe, especially Spain, reshaped the dance from the mid-2000s onward. Their versions added turns, dips, body movement and a closer connection.
